Hello gents,

I just started listening to the podcast and I am already hooked. Every story seems to line up with my younger years in the IFB. My story has a slightly different twist however: Oddly enough, I was raised in a church that was very “IFBish” on the  surface (camp meetings, altar calls, running down other denominations, pastoral domination, etc.) and yet, they held to the doctrines of grace.

I am thankful for their firm stance on the inspiration of Scripture and their passion for teaching correct doctrine but I definitely saw the legalism lying underneath. The message was not, “do this “list” or you may loose your salvation.” It was always a message of, “if we don’t see you doing this “list”, we question whether you were truly saved to begin with.”

The core doctrines were present and yet the peace was always far away. It was so confusing to be taught eternal security along side works righteousness. Landmarkism was also alive and well when it came to the KJVO aspect. Long story short, it’s as if they taught the piety of the puritans without the rest found in Christ that the puritan piety naturally flowed from.

Thanks for reading. Keep going with the episodes!
