Hey guys,
Long story short, I was raised in an IFB church. I’m one of those who just don’t believe any more, and I’m not sure I really ever did. I often have discussions with my Father, who is still an IFB, about different biblical topics. One that I just can’t wrap my head around is his beliefs on creation. Here is what I’m hoping you giys may be able to shed some light on.
My Dad is a “young eather”, despite every shred of scientific proof that presented he holds true to his belief that the earth, and universe for that matter, is only aboit 6,500 years old. No matter the scientifix proof presented, he will find a flaw in it, most often whatever Ken Hamm or Dr. Dino (Kent Hovind) have to say about it.
Even when I was in church, I always struggled with the anti-science approach. Often wondering why what the bible says can’t be one in the same with what science shows. My Dad always says that the bible is written at a 5th grade reading level, so when it says a day it means a 24 hour day. Yet, he has to pull out his scofield refeerence guide to get insight on something a 5th grader should be able to understand, I just have to shake my head.
So, could you guys elaborate on your beliefs on how long the biblical creation story took to unfold, why young eathers seem to be always be IFB, and what I might be able to show my Dad to change his thinking.
Sorry this was so long winded, I appreciate your time!
